JailBase.com API

JailBase.com has an easy to use web api so your website or application can access our extensive county jail inmate data. Using the API, you can search for arrested and booked individuals in county jails. Terms of Use

The web service uses a REST interface to make calls and returns results in JSON (JSONP is also supported). Calls to the webservice do not require a developer key, however they are rate limited (see terms of use). If you have questions or comments, please contact us.

Here are the methods we currently have available:

  • search - search for individuals by name
  • recent - get recent arrests
  • sources - all the organizations we collect information from

Method: search - search for individuals by name

Parameters:

  • last_name
    • The last name to search for. Partial names accepted.
    • Type: String
    • Required
  • first_name
    • The first name to search for. Partial names accepted.
    • Type: String
  • source_id
    • The id of a specific organization to search. See list.
    • Type: String
  • page
    • The page number to return. Only 10 records are returned per page. See total_records, current_page and next_page values in the results.
    • Type: Integer
    • Default: 1
  • json_callback
    • If using JSONP, specify the function name here.
    • Type: String

Results:

  • status
    • The status of the call. If successful, then the value 1 is returned. If there was an error (incorrect parameters for example), 0 is returned. See 'msg' returned below.
    • Type: Integer
  • msg
    • The error msg if status = 0, else empty string.
    • Type: String
  • total_records
    • Only 10 records are returned at a time so this tells you how many total records were found (limited to 100 max).
    • Type: Integer
  • current_page
    • The current page number of the results that has been returned.
    • Type: Integer
  • next_page
    • The next page number of the results. If no more pages, then 0.
    • Type: Integer
  • records
    • An array of record objects:
      • name - The name of the individual.
      • mugshot - The image url of mugshot.
      • id - A unique string id for the record.
      • source_id - The id of the source.
      • source - The name of the source.
      • county_state - The county and state of the booking.
      • book_date - Book Date string in YYYY-MM-DD format.
      • book_date_formatted - Book Date string in MMM DD, YYYY format.
      • details - An array of details about the individual. Each array item is a two element array with the first index a description and the second index a value.
      • charges - A string array of charges.
      • more_info_url - The url on Jail.com to get more info.

Method: recent - get recent arrests

Parameters:

  • source_id
    • The id of a specific organization to search. See list.
    • Type: String
    • Required
  • page
    • The page number to return. Only 10 records are returned per page. See total_records, current_page and next_page values in the results.
    • Type: Integer
    • Default: 1
  • json_callback
    • If using JSONP, specify the function name here.
    • Type: String

  • status

      • source_id - A unique string id for the source.
      • name - The name of the source.
      • state - The state (abbreviated) the source is located in.
      • state_full - The state (full name) the source is located in.
      • has_mugshots - A boolean value stating if mugshots are available for this source.
